New cruise ships to hold a record 6,600 passengers
(15 June 2015)

Cruise giant Carnival Corp. today ordered four new ships that will hold up to 6,600 passengers a piece -- a new record.

The parent company of Carnival, Holland America, Princess and seven other lines says two of the 180,000-ton vessels will be operated by its German brand, Aida. The company didn't say which brand would get the other two ships but suggested they would sail for one of its Europe-based lines.

Fire damaged container ship arrives in Southampton
(4 June 2015)

A car transporter which caught fire at sea off the east coast of the country - has arrived in Southampton.

Experts from Hampshire Fire and Rescue helped to monitor the situation as crews on board The Courage ship tackled the blaze using carbon dioxide.

Korea and Japan Vie for Mega Container Ship Orders
(18 May 2015)

Maersk Line is said to have reached an agreement with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) for an order of up to 11 mega container ships with a capacity of around 20,000 TEU.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the price for each is expected to be a record low of around $151 million each.

The Centres to Seafarers provide a warm welcome to all seafarers visiting our ports and to seafarers and their dependants who are resident in the City.

Each Centre is home to the four port chaplains representing the Apostleship of the Sea, The Sailors' Society, The Mission to Seafarers and Queen Victoria Seamen's Rest.

Free transport is provided from the docks complex to and from the Centres.
