Region Prepares to Implement New Seafaring Requirements

Maritime regulators, trainers and stakeholders from the Pacific region took part in a seminar to familiarise themselves with the requirements of the Manila Amendments to the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) and Code.

UN Urges Nations to Respond to Piracy
(23rd November 2011)

On Tuesday the United Nations Security Council reiterated calls for a comprehensive global response to piracy at sea. The Security Council condemned the attacks and robberies off the coast of Somali despite increased operations in the area. Member states and organizations were called to use their full capacity to fight piracy in accordance with international laws, including the deployment of naval ships, arms and military aircraft to deter attacks and apprehend pirates and their equipment.

The Centres to Seafarers provide a warm welcome to all seafarers visiting our ports and to seafarers and their dependants who are resident in the City.

Each Centre is home to the three port chaplains representing the Apostleship of the Sea, The Sailors' Society and The Mission to Seafarers. Free transport is provided from the docks complex to and from the Centres.
