Kevin Hobbs formally opening the new Centre with representatives of the three Societies, including Secretary General Tom Heffer, the AOS and Sailors Societies port chaplains and local supporters.

The 32' portacabin was custom built to provide telephone and internet services for the seafarers on ships at the Fawley Marine Terminal (some 2000 ships visit Fawley every year) . The new Centre is situated close to the refinery main gate.

Phonecards and simcards can be purchased through a vending machine in the Centre and tea and coffee are available as is a comfortable seating area and flat screen TV.

Though the centre is unmanned, local parishioners from the Fawley Parish Church and other volunteers keep an eye on the Centre and the port chaplains call at the centre on a daily basis.

Centres for Seafarers is an ecumenical collaboration of the three Societies, The Mission to Seafarers, Apostleship of the Sea and the Sailors Society.
