Who Are We?

Centres for Seafarers was formed as a new not for profit charity company in 2004 and is an ecumenical partnership of the three international Christian Mission Societies, The Apostleship of the Sea, The British and International Sailors Society and The Mission to Seafarers, working together to provide welfare, comfort and shelter for seafarers visiting UK ports. Six trustees, two from each member Society, run the charity.

The Trustees of Centres for Seafarers will make the best economic judgements at each of the ports where all three Societies currently have a presence, as to the most appropriate means of serving visiting and local seafarers in terms of welfare and other necessary services.

The first two Centres have been established in Southampton (opened April 2005) and Tilbury (opened December 2006). Both centres follow the same management model which is proving sucessful and which will form the blue print for other ecumenical centres around the UK.
